Cosily Sheltered from Any Weather on Renovated Patio of Luxury Hotel
The Renson Aero bladed roof and Fixscreen sun protection are perfectly integrated into a steel structure at La Réserve Resort in Knokke, ensuring guests enjoy every moment of their stay. Whether in the luxurious rooms, the spacious lounge, or at the La Rigue restaurant run by Belgian Michelin-starred chef Peter Goossens, visitors can linger on the patio comfortably year-round. This patio features a steel structure with a built-in bladed roof, screens, and heating elements, creating a cosy cocoon overlooking Zegemeer Lake.
The renovation of La Réserve Resort was ambitious and radical. The ground floor was completely gutted and redecorated in just six months. The patio was also a significant part of the project. “We used to have parasols, but we wanted to avoid loose elements in the new design,” explains project manager Kurt Beauprez of Groep Versluys. “We opted for fixed parasols in four places and sought a way to create a sheltered area on the patio for comfortable, calm seating all year round, even in unfavorable weather. This architectural volume also strengthens the overall concept.”
Sheltered but Not Closed Off
To realize architect Glenn Sestig's design, Kurt Beauprez turned to Renson-ambassador Decoranda. Together, they settled on a steel structure with a built-in Aero bladed roof. When it rains, the rotatable blades close, providing shelter. The same blades regulate the amount of sun or shade on the patio. The screens temper the sun or wind, and the heating elements ensure a pleasant temperature. The goal is to encourage guests to spend time outdoors all year round.
Combining the metal structure with screens creates a balance between protection and openness. The outdoor fireplace adds extra ambiance to the cosy al fresco cocoon. “We control the built-in bladed roof, screens, and heating with one remote control. This allows us to optimally respond to weather conditions and our patrons’ wishes at any time,” says Kurt.
Tailored to the Michelin-Starred Kitchen
The exterior structure is an inherent component of the architectural design. At La Réserve, they strive for excellence in every aspect. The patio is an extension of the La Rigue restaurant run by Peter Goossens, making the perfect integration of the bladed roof and sun protection crucial. The metal structure, built by subcontractor Covrr, is clad in Alucobond panels anodized in a shade of bronze.
“A customized color,” adds Gertjan from Decoranda. “In fact, the entire project is customized. We had to adjust the steel structure at the last minute because we couldn’t fit the Aero bladed roof in. The fact that we were able to deliver everything without delay is the result of excellent cooperation between the various partners. We have experienced and appreciated this way of working with Renson for many years."
