A spacious, detached home offering endless possibilities, premium comfort and a bold, contemporary design – that was the brief brought to Schellen Architecten by the owners of this corner plot. The architectural team responded with a striking concept that includes a multifunctional basement, maximum contact with the garden, and a dynamic façade where travertine-look ceramic tiles are elegantly combined with sleek Linarte aluminium façade blades.

A multi-functional basement with plenty of relaxation space, a wellness area, bright home offices, and a large open kitchen that is the beating heart of family life: it's a joy to spend time at this villa in Edegem, inside and out. Surrounding the house, a welcoming terrace, practical storage area and stylish swimming pool invite residents to enjoy the outdoors to the fullest. Thanks to the façade design, the beautiful outdoor environment flows naturally into the home. The corner plot's strengths have been fully embraced, and the addition of a lift means the owners are set to enjoy their new home for many years to come.

Bold architecture

Working from the clients’ mood board, architect Reginald Schellen developed a building concept and matching interior design. "We took their ideas and preferences and gave them our own interpretation,” he explains. "For example, the family loved the look of a thatched roof, so we translated that into our own style. By cleverly integrating the Linarte blades, we created the illusion of a floating roof plate, a subtle nod to a more traditional roof structure.”

Thanks to its built-in flexibility, Linarte not only offers sleek, vertical lines, but also maximum design freedom and a high-quality finish in execution.

This use of the façade cladding system puts the finishing touch on the project. Throughout the entire design, Linarte sets the tone, engaging in a dialogue with the travertine-look ceramic tiles. Reginald Schellen: “These tiles, with their natural stone appearance, feature sleek lines. The verticality of the Linarte blades creates visual tension. This is enriched by their varying depths and the interplay of shadow and light.”

The clients were immediately on board with the design and the mock-up showing how the tiles and cladding would come together. The low-maintenance and sustainable nature of the façade cladding also won them over. "As architects, we’ve long been fans of this product,” Schellen adds. "In other projects, we’ve extended the blades from inside to outside or integrated LED lighting into the profiles. This façade cladding elicits a lot of architectural creativity.”

Challenging mix of profiles

The façades with blades alternate between Block 16 and Block 16L profiles in the colour Terra Brown (RAL 8028), a rich, bronze-like shade that pairs beautifully with the beige tones of the tiles. Two earthy colours, each with its own distinct character. Matching the Linarte profile colour to the rest of the joinery creates a harmonious whole. The profiles form a continuous band just below the upper volume and reappear throughout the home. They frame windows and columns, accentuate the entrance and blend seamlessly into the garage door, where the horizontal joints become nearly invisible.

The aluminium façade cladding was carried out by Limeparts-Drooghmans. "The combination of Block 16 and Block 16L results in a refined, rhythmic façade design. That's the theory, but in practice, architects and clients alike often want a tangible sense of what that means,” says coordinator Veronique Theunissen. "Thanks to detailed 3D drawings and thorough technical planning, we were able to align with the architect early on in the process.” At Limeparts-Drooghmans, every detail is engineered in advance and submitted for approval. This ensures that both aesthetic and technical requirements are fully captured in an executable design. "This approach takes a lot off the architect’s plate and gives them the freedom to focus entirely on the architectural quality,” says Veronique.

Seamless transitions

This project is a prime example of craftsmanship that makes a real difference. Meticulous preparation, both during the design and site preparation stages, combined with precise installation, contributes to the façade’s sleek appearance. Even the spacing between the individual Linarte profiles plays its part. Veronique: “Thanks to its built-in flexibility, Linarte not only offers sleek, vertical lines, but also maximum design freedom and a high-quality finish in execution. We always have to accommodate some construction tolerances, especially if there are connections around windows and garage doors. But that’s where Renson excels: combining aesthetics and engineering in a seamless, detail-driven way.”
